Two Worlds

Helen Nontando (Noni) Jabavu (1919-2008) was a pioneering South African writer who worked and lived all over the world.

She was the granddaughter of John Tengo Jabavu, founding editor of Imvo Zabantsundu. Jabavu became the first black South African woman to make writing her career. The 13 source material for the exhibition is the collection of letters written by Jabavu in the late 1980s and early 1990s, reflecting on her life and writing career.
